Project health checks are typically completed in combination with the 'hands on' project managers and key stakeholders. They can focus on the overall management strategy or focus in on any particular aspect. We work closely with client teams to ensure that all the relevant aspects of projects are identified for the review. Assignment Profile
Review of plans for the integration of two functions revealed gaps in the assignment of key responsibilities
Background
Two functional units representing different business units were to be merged. As part of that merger, the people, processes and systems were to be brought together and to operate as a single function serving all businesses in the future. Two programme managers had been appointed to represent each of the two merging functions. They had worked together to prepare both high level and detailed plans of what needed to be done in the next 9 months to facilitate the merger.
Objectives
A review of the plans was requested to highlight any potential project controls that were missing and to identify if any key activities had been missed.
Results
The initial meeting identified that even though the plans were created at both a high level and at a detailed level, the activities and milestones had not been grouped into work streams. On grouping of these activities, it became clear that a number of key milestones had been left off the plan altogether. In addition, the discussions highlighted a major area that had been overlooked - roles and responsibilities. The decision making processes and the accountabilities of key programme members had not been clearly identified and as such not much activity was actually happening despite the detailed planning that had already taken place.
Benefits
With the Pure Indigo health check, critical areas were quickly identified and appropriate project controls were put in place to support the programme managers. Monthly update meetings were then held to ensure that the programme remained on track.
